As part of the development of water pollution control technology, the OZ-SEPA membrane succeeded in developing an oil-water separation membrane through nano-scale surface treatment and completed patent acquisition.

The membrane of the nanostructure is an innovative technology that drains water and prevents 99% of oil from passing through, and the separated oil can be recycled without physical change.

 Principles of a Nanofilter

  • In Nano-surface treatment the cellulose based material’s surface is covered with nanostructures.
  • These nanostructures have a high aspect ratio (around 10-50 nm) and are specifically tailored to be highly hydrophilic (water loving) but also highly oleophobic (oil hating).

 Principles of nanostructures

  • As seen in the photo to the left, water will adhere to these structures, forming a membrane that blocks oil from passing. Since water is more dense than oil it will pass through the pores, leaving only oil behind.
